Noak's Progress

Noak has been reading like a champ and has been spelling like crazy. He is starting to want to write  more as well. So here is a little bit of the work he is doing. I am so proud!!!! He is so amazing (as he always reminds me)!

This is part of Noak's Language class.  We are learning about complete sentences, and theme writing. Our current lesson set is about animals.  So he drew a picture of an elephant and then dictated a sentence about what his elephant was doing. That is his name at the bottom of the page. The first weird mark was him not paying attention to my directions.

Here is his name. He writes it everyday and is getting better and better all the time. We are using a method called Hand Writing without Tears and it is working great. I can coach with directions that are the same for all letters. So for the "N" in his name I tell him, "Strait line down, leap frog (or leap back) up, slide down to the line, strait line up." He is learning about big curves, little curves, strait line, little line across, etc.  We are working strictly with uppercase as I quickly discovered that lowercase letters are a lot harder to teach when the child has no writing skills at all. So that will come later. Anyway, Noak is amazing and picking this all up so much faster than I thought he would.
Just a few writing samples so you can all be as proud of Noak as I am.

When the work is done....

Playing Super Mario Bros. when he was all done with school.

Noak's First day of school

Eating breakfast before our first day of Kindergarten.

Getting ready to do some school work in our new home school area in Noak's room.

Noak wrote his name. We just learned how to write "A" the correct way. Isn't it beautiful?!!! He was so proud.

Here is Noak doing some of his reading. His is so amazing (as he frequently reminds me--"No Mom, I can do it, I'm amazing!"

Heading Home

Although I am really looking forward to being in my own bed, seeing my neighbors, whom I miss dearly, and just being home, I'm Sad to day that tomorrow is the day we have to leave here. I am so blessed to have a wonderful brother and sister-in-law, that I actually like spending lots and lots of time with. We have decided our final route home and I thought I would share it with you all so you can know where we are at all times =). We will be staying at KOA Kampgrounds in:
Abilene, TX
Tucumcari, NM
Holbrook, AZ
Barstow, CA
Sonora, CA
Redding, CA
will be our destination....for those of you who don't know where we live???? =)

Eatin' Bugs with Uncle Dan

The two things we heard the most on this trip was "Miss Kru Stina" (Noe was practicing saying Miss Kristina, which he has had such a hard time saying. And he has been totally frustrated that he couldn't say it, hence the practicing), and "Can we eat bugs with Uncle Dan?" So we finally got to the restaurant and showed Noe what "bugs" were and his perspective kinda changed. He still ate a bite and swallowed it down. Hope you enjoy the pictures....should have gotten a video! Oh, by the way, "bug" are commonly know as Crawdads or Crawfish (here and everywhere else).

4th of July

We watched fireworks over the Mississippi (well, right next to it-on a part of a river that used to be the Mississippi River). The city was crowded and we got their late but somehow got the BEST seats right on the boat launch.

These were taken while we waited or just after the fireworks.

These are mostly on the way home from church or to church or something. Noe and Sawyer were so cute. Sawyer (just turning 3) was moving up to the 3-4 year olds class at church so it was new for him as well as for Noe. They walked in a little tentatively but excited, holding hands. It was such a cute moment (and I did not take a picture).

I think I took about 700 pictures and these were the only ones that weren't riddled with funny faces, closed eyes and opened mouths.

Finally, It was time to go home. It is always amazing to me that the more tired a child gets the more energy they seem to have and more fight they have behind that energy.

Sawyer's Birthday and Angry Birds

Dan and Dawn have introduce us to a terrible thing. For those of you who have and ipod touch or iphone find this app. and buy it. Gabe, Noe and I have spent countless hours (yes, I mean hours) playing this incredibly funny and addictive game!!! One of these pics is of Gabe and Noe each playing (our ipod and Aunty Dawn's). Soooooooo Fun!!! And as you can see we enjoyed eating cupcakes for Sawyer's birthday. Fun times!

Lake Erie

We got the opportunity to go camping for a few days up at lake Erie with our good friends, the Beers. We had such a good time. It was a little bit of a pain that we had to walk to the farthest reaches of the campground to get to the potty...(here's where my "out in the log-woods childhood" really paid off) thankfully we had our shower tent set up against the bushes and i could steal away behind it in the middle of the night. Don't tell anyone I said that =). It was great fun. Well off to sleep (BYW we're in Wyoming).
